Empowering others to be the best version of themselves is what lights me up in life. Truly. It is a passion I’ve had since I went into teaching over 20 years ago. I wanted to help children feel good about themselves, but also to feel that I was making a difference in the world. That I mattered. You see, when I was 5, I made a subconscious decision that I didn’t matter. My parents had a messy break up and my dad didn’t want to have much to do with me, so I decided that it

must mean that I didn’t matter. Not that I realised that at the time,  it was a limiting belief I ran my life by for many years.

I also decided that if I was perfect and a people pleaser, it might make my dad want to see me more than just at Christmas and Easter. Added to that, being perfect would mean I’d be no trouble for my mum dealing with the traumatic fallout. So perfect became my way of ‘being’.

However, the mind knows when something isn’t right and I suffered from anxiety and depression in my 20’s. Although you’d have never known it; I was very good hiding behind a mask.

Then in 2003 I became a mum. This led me to research how to immunise my child against potential mental health issues so that he’d have healthy self–esteem and wouldn’t have to go through what I went through. So began my quest to learn how to help children think positively so that they could thrive. I researched and studied positive psychology and personal development and I delivered training to staff, parents and children on the likes of self-esteem and mastery, long before it was popular.

Along the way I trained as a life coach, specialising in working with young people and parents, forged partnerships with various inspirational mentors and enlisted the expertise of a world class Transformational Coach, all to enhance what I had to offer the younger generation.  In 2010, I introduced a mindset, resilience and positivity programme at my school, which, through continual refinement, evolved into the life changing 'Born to Thrive' programme, that it is today. Through word of mouth, I was asked to train other schools, both mainstream and special needs, as well as to guest lecture at local teacher training universities.  It was then that I realised that I had a duty to spread these messages as far and as wide as I possibly could.  So I set up my own business to do what lit me up inside and to make a difference in this world; empowering, staff, children and parents to be the very best version of themselves,  so that they can truly thrive.
